Design Project 3.0

Finished the last parts of the Design Document, now time to go scramble on the Project Report.

This will be the last time i write in thin blog now since i will be importing it to a document, it has been a good run all you 1-2 myseterious readers, But now it has come to an end.

Continued writting on the Design Document, only need to fill in the blancs from the template I made last week. Filled in from time to time over the day since I am studying for another test at the same time. I will probably finish it tomorrow or later this week when I get some time over.

Today I started doing the template for my Design Document, the game ive chosen for this last part is Lurking Darkness. I  used the Game Design book as help when i made the template. I am having trouble finding which topics to use since this game is a smaller game, I have got about 8 pages on the template now that needs to be filled in, will see if I find more topics to add or not.

This morning I started doing my prototypes, at first I planned to do Lurking Darkness in game maker and Zombie Mansion with pen and papper. But as I started using Game Maker I realised it would be to hard to use GM to make Lurking Darkness.

I sat down for a while and brainstormed a bit, I came up with a pretty good pen and papper prototype for it, so I made Lurking Darkness with pen and papper. So i figured id try the Game Make one more time, this time for the Zombie Mansion game. This went very well actually and it only took a few hours before I had a working prototype.

So now the prototypes are complete, now just for some playtesting and then I can start with the Design Document.

This weekend I have spent researching five games.

Again the games i researched were:

1. Shadow Fiend
2. Lurking Darkness
3. Bone structure
4. A Sucker for Blood
5. Zombie Mansion

When i was researching Nr:4 “A Sucker for Blood” I discovered something funny… a game called Mister Mosquito that is basically the exact game. This is very thoughtful in the way that now i know how meaningful it can be to research something before you work.

I have been using the site www.giantbomb.com, Johan in my class recommended it for me and I found it very useful. Best part about it was that I could just type in a word, for example “Mosquito” and all the games involving mosquitos would pop up so that I could read up on them and see and compare vs. my ideas.

Anyways so now I sent in the document containing the research to Anna Kaisa, in the mail i asked if there was anything more to add to the research before I save them in PDF (which was suggested). If all is in order she will chose the next two games for my next part, prototyping. If she thinks there are still stuff to be added to my research I will add that before I start prototyping.

If I haven’t gotten any answer tomorrow I will probably start looking into prototyping a bit since I will use Game Maker for one protoype and paper and pen for one. I will most likely write tomorrow about the situation, see you then!

As you might have noticed I have forgotten to blogg this entire week which is kinda bad. But all the 10 Presentations are done and sent in for approval.

Writing 10 presentations in it self didn’t take that long, finished them up pretty quickly, then when I sent them in we had some problem with the schools mailing application so i lost a couple of days on that. Then I decided so send the presentations with my own mail, then it succeeded and here is the 5 chosen for the next research task:

Like earlier, she only decided the first 4 then I got free hands to pick my last.

Now I am going to start making a template on the Research task and then work on it this weekend.

As you might notice this is only eight, that is because i got to chose two ideas, i chose “Leader of the Pack” and “Zombie Mansion”.

So I started working with the Presentations yesterday, finished about nine of them, was to lazy to do the last one (lol). So I finished the last one today.

Now for the next elimination round.

“10 Ideas still standing, who gets to the next part to have a shot on the 10 millions? and who gets to go home?”

(Ok it doesn’t really get any money, but I think the ideas tend to get more motivated this way)

I had forgotten so send in the 20 Ideas to AK last week, so now I had to send them in now so I can start working on the next task ASAP. Since i was away the whole weekend i couldnt send it in earlier, so hopefully she will choose out 10 fast so I can start with them so I dont get behind in the schedule

Today we had the progress meeting at school with AnnaKaisa, got see how far everyone has gotten and what they are doing and focusing on.

Yesterday i wrote five of the 20 documents, I forgot to blogg about it though. So that makes it 15 done for yesterday.

This morning when i woke up I completed the last five and I am going to send them to AK so that she can choose out 10 Ideas for PowerPoint presentations task.

I got the answer from my teacher today whom gave me green light for my Project Plan even though it was a little tidy. So now I can go back to focusing on the project.

Today I worked on the Ideas that need a little more info on them again, and finished 6 of them. So now I have 10 Ideas completed out of 20. Tomorrow I will write another five and thursday I will write the last five.

If I have the time tomorrow I will write more than just five, so that I can finish the last 30~ ideas for the “100 ideas task” on thursday instead.
